Education is a big part of our Benedictine legacy. A scientist once remarked to me, quite seriously, “Thank you for getting us to the moon.” He was obviously well-acquainted with the pivotal role monks played in the preservation of Western Civilization, and our contributions in education, the sciences, literature, the arts, and Christian service.
This is the legacy we have inherited and strive to pass on to your child.
Humans are not merely rational creatures. Yes, we are that, but more. Your child was created for greater things. My purpose, and that of every member of our seasoned faculty, is to help your child discover and develop their God given gifts.
We do that by forming the whole person: Body, Mind, and Spirit – thus our Latin motto: Corpus ∙ Mens ∙ Spiritus.
St. Bernard Prep exists so that students discover and love three wonderful realities: truth, goodness, and beauty. Regardless of your faith tradition—there are many non-Catholics who study at St. Bernard—the search for truth, goodness, and beauty inevitably lead one toward a fulfilling life.
This is a journey we want for your child. Yes, we excel at preparing them for university studies. But education, in the great Benedictine tradition tested by the centuries, goes further. We want graduates with a life-long love of learning who lead virtuous lives. We want students who know what it means to love and be loved. This, and only this, makes deep happiness possible.
All this happens in an idyllic setting of almost 900 acres: woodlands with over 13 miles of hiking and running trails, lush pasture land, and a wide-open, green campus with a Benedictine Abbey at its heart.
Allow me to extend a personal invitation. Experience for yourself the peace and beauty of St. Bernard Preparatory School, and the people who call it home.
Fr. Joel Martin, O.S.B.
